The Last of Autumn

Here are some pics of our Bradford Pear leaves. Beautiful this year! Most were a light apricot pink or the colour of orange pansies, but I don't know how well the camera caught that.

I have a few more, but those will have to do for now! Lightning is acting up.

Post-Thanksgiving!

It's like I told Tori at Mema's.
The more crunched with joy and delight an event is, the harder to post about it. The quantity of events in one week and people in one house summed up to make a trip blurbing over with excitement.
The easy way out would be to post pics, but all the pics I took are on Carrie's camera. As well as my video of the United Cousins practicing for their Thanksgiving play. That option's gone.
Here I go!
Which is what it all started with. I went. We left in the afternoon, so we spent the night at a hotel somewhere in AL, I believe. Then arrived at Mema's at 6:45ish or so Tuesday evening. After a quick supper Mema, Mom, myself, and the vacuum cleaner headed out to ready the bunkhouse. Dad and Papa disappeared, but were discovered basking in the warmth of the wood stove in the shed. :) The Wigs weren't supposed to show up until next morning, but my magnetic personality drew them in late Tuesday night. (Actually, I think certain people wanted to be able to sleep in on Wednesday...)
So Tori and I camped out on the den floor. Normally with all 7 of us girls in there Tori and I (the sacrificial elders ;) end up with our pillows on the granite slab in front of the fireplace. We figured sleeping on the marble slab should give us sweet dreams, but tradition was shoved aside and comfort prevailed. I didn't remember any dreams all week, so I couldn't compare the later marble slab days to Tuesday night.
Carrie and Aaron, the Paits, and the Dersches showed up next morning, so the circus commenced.
The scale of the week was set when I leaned into the laundry room to toss a napkin in the trash and beheld a pan the size of the top of the dryer full of cornbread waiting to be transformed into dressing. We got to chop gallons of celery for the stuffing too. I love being destructive. I chopped up some gargantuon sweet potatoes for Mema too, but Paiton came and took over. Tip: do not allow teenage boys to chop resistant sweet potatoes on a silicone mat. Mema's mat now has nice slits through it. :) I did learn a cool way to cut sweet potatoes though. You just chop into the potato until the knife is stuck so you can use it like a handle. Then you bring the potato up and whack it down with all your might making a tremendous noise. POW. Your potato is split.
That was a horrid description. Sometime I'll have to demonstrate in real life. lol Suffice to say, it's a great stress reliever.
We did all sorts of things besides chopping. Like playing hide-and-go-seek with Gracie. "Now you go hide on the shed roof while I count to 10!" Or transplanting moss to make lime green carpet under the bridge. Or getting attacked with dirt bombs while invading the UC Club House.
And walking. Carrie and Tori and I went walking numerous times. We sang rounds and stuff while we strolled along. Keeps the bears away. Once we encountered loose dogs, but we just continued singing "the Union forever! Hurrah, boys, hurrah!..." and they didn't bother us. No repeats of Jonathan getting swallowed by a dog last summer, please. ;)
I have to get off the 'puter, so I'd better quit.
I'm forgetting somethings importants, I'm sure. Oh. We sang tons of Christmas carols around the piano. And all of us girls sang a special at church on Wednesday night.
AND. We had a marvelous bonfire. Actually 2. Some friends from church came over and we had a bonfire and smores at Mema's. Meanwhile Mema and Papa fled the ruckus to attend a 50th highschool reunion. Then Uncle Jimmy came across the road and informed us that he was starting a bonfire at Granny's, so everyone flocked over there. Jolly fun! Bother. I could really elaborate on this, but I must go.
So we all left Sunday afternoon. And we all lived happily ever after!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

Pre-Thanksgiving

...in contrast to the Post-Thanksgiving post that should be far more exciting!

In comparison, this is about a trip too. A pre-Thanksgiving trip that I just realized I never posted about. I forget when it even was exactly, but on a weekend we went down to visit my grandparents in tropical Laredo--beautimus. They're supposed to have a balmy 80 degree Thanksgiving, and here I was tromping up to the attic this afternoon in search of a non-shiver zone just to concentrate on my Chemistry HW. It worked. You should try it. Ideally your mom will have just pulled out your camp sleeping bags to haul off on Thanksgiving vacation so that you can repose upon them like a kindergarten nap mat. (Bother! Why did I just have to take that grammar chapter on misplaced modifiers! A kindergarten mat doesn't repose on sleeping bags, but I don't have time to go past rough draft stage grammatically.)I can't really remember what we did...except just visit. lol I taught the preschool class again. Except it isn't really preschool anymore. Pity. Now that they're old enough to understand a story I'm not there anymore. Actually, we mostly sang because when Grandma teaches, she doesn't sing very much. I couldn't believe that I'd forgotten the track number for I'm In the Lord's Army on the music CD! Terrible, terrible. I did remember that 11 is The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock. Ok, now you can go check me on SacredAudio...Sunday School Singalong the original. lol I promise I didn't check myself. I'm thinking 18 is the Poochie Lip Disease, but I'm probably wrong...and 30 is something we sang a lot...
Anyway, yeah. Then we came home. Oh, yeah. That. ;)
Dad drove the old truck back so that we'd have it up here. And Grandpa stuck a bunch of his messenger pigeons in the back of it for us to let out at the rest stop. He called us and said they brought 20 more wild friends home with them. 8o
That was a shocked face by the way. Not an eighty.
So that was that. And plenty has happened since then that I won't elaborate upon.

Three more entire days before we leave for NC!

all in good time

I went to the library to do some research and it was closed. How dare it. :)
So I came home and went ahead and walked the frantic dog and then came in to do homework and LO and BEHOLD. I had an urgent request for a post. The library being closed must've been a sign. (To quote Aunt Suzanne.)
Not like I have anything special to post about. Some of you Festival people ought to have something interesting to say. :)
I did get my hair cut today. I guess that's exciting. My head feels much lighter. Ooh. That sounds bad...anyway...yeah. But my brain actually has a right to feel lighter because I had an Algebra test and Chemistry quiz this morning.
Oh yeah. When I was walking the dog these two like 3rd grade boys came up behind me and I could hear one saying something like "Man, that dog looks like he would love to eat me" and the other goes "quick run past him and he can't get us." Great. And no time to yell that my dog isn't a man-eater. They came bursting past me and of course what does Banjo do? Hey kidos! RUNNING kidos! Playtime! And tries to take off after them. I almost choked him trying to keep him still.
That was exciting. :) If I see those boys again, I'm going to be like. "Hey, come meet my dog WALKING, please..." lol
Alright, now I need to go do something that's actually on my planner. lol

Quilt Pics!

Here are some pics. If you click on the 1 pic, there are more... :) And when I get the pics of the last several blocks there will be even more!
You can also just look at the slideshow on the sidebar. I may move that down though. It sort of triggers my claustrophobia. ;) Besides being off-center. Ugh.
Kaleidoscope Block of the Month

Thanks, Tina! I wasn't sure if Picasa was worth the hassle, but it's fast. Yay!

There's lots more to learn, but I have to go study.

Fabulous Friday

I don't have anything new to expound, but I'm posting anyway to keep up my momentum.
:)
I am getting ready to sew up another quilt block, and when I have it done, I'm going to try and get pics of all the ones I've done so far. THEN, I'm going to try to find a way to post them as a gallery on here. That's one way blogspot seems to fall short of wordpress...

Anyway. Gotta go.
